On Saturday 5th July the band performed at the Wantage Road street party in west Reading! The rain held off and the residents came out to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. A small ensemble of band members opened the festivities with the fanfare “Opening for an Occasion” and then performed a selection of rousing tunes including favourites from “Last Night of the Proms” such as “Rule Britannia” and “Land of Hope and Glory” plus a selection of jolly hymn tunes and easy listening pieces such as “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from the film “Toy Story” and the traditional “Pastime with Good Company“. The performance was greatly appreciated by the Wantage Road residents, and band members were pleased to have the opportunity to meet residents with historic connections to the band.
