The Reading Spring Gardens Brass Band has been entertaining the community in and around Reading since 1899 and is considered to be the oldest musical institution in Reading.
2024 marks a significant milestone as the band celebrates its 125th anniversary, highlighted by qualifying for the national finals for the first time in 65 years!
As part of the band’s celebratory year, Reading was proudly represented at the Saddleworth Whit Friday Brass Band Contests, where the band was awarded The Dobcross Village Community Cup for Best 4th Section Band. The band also performed to a full and appreciative audience at The Civic in Holmfirth, a renowned venue at the heart of brass banding country, further cementing its reputation as one of the finest entertainment bands in Berkshire.
With so much to celebrate, the band and its members take pride in their achievements, especially in light of the challenges they have overcome as a charity following the coronavirus crisis. The band remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving brass band music-making and the cultural heritage of Reading.
