The Reading Spring Gardens Brass Band is very pleased to have been awarded second place at ‘Challenging Brass 2018’ with BBb tuba player Thomas Gowers claiming the best soloist award for his terrific rendition of ‘The Teddy Bears Picnic’.

The brass band contest was held at Addlestone Community Centre on Sunday 28th October under the adjudication of Wg Cdr (Rtd) Duncan Stubbs, the former RAF Music Services’ Principal Director of Music who summised that the band’s performance had delivered:

Some quality musical work [and] a well considered programme.

Congratulations to the winners ‘Staines Lammas’ and to ‘Pangbourne’ and ‘Amersham Community’ brass bands.

The bands in order of placing were awarded the following points:

1 Staines Lammas Band 91
2 Reading Spring Gardens Brass Band 84
3 Pangbourne Band 70
4 Amersham Community Brass 65

Thank you to the members of all participating bands, the organisers and sponsor, and of course our audience for an enjoyable afternoon of brass band music making.

The Reading Spring Gardens Brass Band now looks forward to performing at the invitation of Reading Borough Council on Remembrance Sunday at the civic ceremony held at the Forbury War Memorial.
