The band kicked off the new year on a high note with an enthusiastic rehearsal on Thursday 4 January which saw a number of new faces in the band room – this sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting year for the band.
The band is unwavering in its commitment to fostering a welcoming environment and emphasising the importance of community. Reading has a rich cultural history of brass banding music making. The challenges of the coronavirus crisis have largely been overcome by the band and it now looks forward to performing under the resurrected banner of ‘Reading Festival of Brass’. This will see the band perform in Reading’s town centre in a series of informal dementia-friendly concerts throughout the year.
Alongside the band’s concert preparations the band is looking forward to competing in the London & Southern Counties Regional Brass Band Championships in March, followed by an away trip to Whit Friday Contests in May.
As the year unfolds, the band looks forward to captivating and inspiring audiences, expanding its musical family, and contributing to the rich cultural ‘tapestry’ of Reading. If you would like to join the band on its musical journey as a player or supporter, we would welcome hearing from you.
