As part of our milestone 125th anniversary celebrations, we are incredibly proud to recognise the extraordinary contributions of two of our most dedicated members, Philip Davey and Michael Fowkes, who have been honoured with Long Service Awards.
Philip and Michael have served the Reading Spring Gardens Brass Band for an astounding 50 and 48 years, respectively.
The awards were presented in a special moment during last night’s rehearsal by our conductor, Matthew Ruel, who expressed deep appreciation for their service. He noted the significance of this achievement, not only in the context of our anniversary but also as the band prepares for an exciting event — the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. This weekend will be particularly momentous for the band, as it marks our first qualification for the national competition in an impressive 65 years.
Philip Davey and Michael Fowkes have both been instrumental (pun intended!) in shaping the band’s recent accomplishments. Notably, this weekend will see Michael Fowkes make his debut appearance at the National Finals — a milestone moment after nearly six decades of playing!
His dedication, alongside Philip’s, is a testament to the lasting impact that a passion for brass band music can have on both individuals and the wider community.
